Le Labo Hinoki
Le Labo is a New York-based independent perfumery founded in 2006 by Fabrice Penot and Edouard Roschi, known for its minimalist philosophy and artisanal approach to fragrance. With an ethos of simplicity and authenticity, Le Labo pioneered niche perfumery built on what is left off the label as much as what is on it. The Hinoki scent, a tribute to the Buddhist temples of Mount Koya in Japan, evokes the serene warmth of hinoki cypress, anchoring the collection in nature and ritual. For the first time, Le Labo expanded beyond fragrance to introduce body, hair and face products, true to their founding philosophy: understated elegance, exceptional materials, no concession to convention.
+ PROJECT OVERVIEW
We developed Le Labo's first hotel amenity collection for their new body range, expanding the brand beyond fragrance into body, hair and skin products. The project centred on the Hinoki scent and the challenge that comes with translating a retail philosophy built on absence into a hospitality context where the product is encountered without the retail environment that normally contextualises it.
A hotel guest is not a retail consumer. They are not evaluating or comparing. They are trusting. The packaging needed to hold that trust without asking for attention. Every material, finish and typographic decision followed from the question: what does this communicate before it is opened, and does it earn the brand's silence?

+ WHAT WE DELIVERED
Engineered the development of Le Labo's hotel amenity collection, integrating minimalist design philosophy with Hinoki fragrance storytelling. Created sustainable packaging solutions and premium structural design across the complete product range. Implemented sophisticated typography and material selection to elevate Le Labo's aesthetic through precise production specifications.
Material choices prioritised the tactile: uncoated stocks that feel considered rather than slick. No element was included that did not earn its place. The constraint of Le Labo's aesthetic, the discipline of restraint, produced the work. Developed cohesive brand touchpoints connecting in-room amenities with retail opportunities, driving post-stay engagement whilst maintaining brand integrity across all channels.

+ OUTCOME
Successfully extended Le Labo's brand into the hospitality space whilst maintaining its dedication to understated elegance. The collection deepened guest engagement and reinforced Le Labo's presence in the luxury market. The work holds because every decision was made against the same standard Le Labo applies to its retail packaging: if it doesn't earn its place, it doesn't appear. That rigour, applied to a hospitality brief, is what separates amenity packaging that feels considered from amenity packaging that merely looks correct.

+ MY DELIVERABLES
Led comprehensive amenity concept development and structural packaging design across the product range. Created master artworks and production specifications whilst establishing brand standards. Implemented strategic design systems connecting hospitality touchpoints to retail conversion. Material selection and uncoated stock specification. Production oversight and brand compliance review. Delivered via Hunter Amenities for international luxury hotel deployment.
